Biography
Maria Pinto is an American fashion designer and artist, renowned for her minimalist, sculptural designs that pull from the architectures found in both human and natural worlds.
Maria discovered her love of painting when she was fifteen, and she went on to receive her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute. There she had the opportunity to study many disciplines in the arts, particularly painting, sculpture and fashion.
In 1991 Maria turned her focus to fashion design. Her designs have been featured in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Vogue, Bazaar and Vanity Fair. However, in 2010 she found herself drawn back to painting, and she has not stopped since.
In 2011 Ms. Pinto co-curated an exhibit for the Field Museum, Fashion and the Field Museum, Maria Pinto. Three of Maria’s designs are now in the permanent collection there.
When she’s not at work designing her latest fashion collection, M2057 by Maria Pinto, Maria retreats to her studio to paint. Her most recent paintings are inspired by roots and rootedness; they are works made from Japanese inks and oil on paper.
